SwissLegal Chur – a law firm with deep traditions to match its historical location

The life and career of Ortlieb von Brandis had been quite extraordinary. The talented Bischop of Chur was elected into the position at the young age of 28. However, he led with stamina, perseverance and foresight. This was essential to manage the challenging circumstances between spiritual and secular governments filled with legal disputes.

Since 2003, the offices of SwissLegal Lardi & Partner AG are located in the townhouse “Haus Brandis” which was built by Ortlieb von Brandis. The building stands right next to the old town hall in the historic center of Chur.

The building, now a protected historical site, was restored in 2003 after it was found to be gradually deteriorating from years of neglect. The core structure and historical features of the original building got preserved. Apart from gothic parlours and a room with an ample coffered ceiling, certain hidden treasures were made visible. For example, wooden ceiling planks with floral patterns which have been covered up with later installed plaster of Paris structures have been laid into meeting room tables.

Also on display is a large wall along the office corridor, which has been left exposed with a glass panel to showcase the original internal structure of the wall – woven together with tree vines.

‘’It is a privilege to work in such beautiful historical building. On a daily basis, I feel like I am walking into a historical scene when I enter the office. The rooms emanate the calm of times long passed,’’ says Mauro Lardi, Chairman of the SwissLegal Ltd. and Partner of the Chur office.

The law firm SwissLegal Lardi & Partner AG, Chur, has been founded 1971 and is part of the SwissLegal Group since 2010. Attorneys and Notary Publics Karin Caviezel, Mauro Lardi, Ylenia Baretta, Reto Nigg and Martina Zarn work at this premise. The main areas of expertise encompass contractual and corporate law, real estate law, construction and planning law, family and inheritance law, penal law, banking and financial markets law and labour and social insurance law. Due to the extensive SwissLegal network, the expertise of around 60 lawyers and experts are accessible at 9 different locations.

This year, Colette Lasserre Rouiller had the honor of sitting on the jury, drawing on her expertise to assess the quality of the participants' pleadings and arguments. Her discerning eye and professional standards enabled her to accurately evaluate the students' performances, while recognizing their commitment and rigor.
